Our Mind’s Eye Stream for Sale: Who will Own those Portals?

As we approach a brave new world of our Mind’s Eye for Sale, who will own that portal, or jump page to other view’s or other perspectives?  It gets more and more expensive to see the world, and harder to travel.  Sound like Total Recall, the movie, not far off from the path we’re already on without even realizing.  Portals to other people’s perspectives, such as Instagram, seeing life from other people’s interpretations of the world, it is fascinating and alluring to us.

Once the Genie is out of the bottle, it’s hard to turn back.  In all sincerity, a lightweight version of Google’s Android OS for Glass may even be downloadable, and free as it is based on open source.  The Glass is super stylish, but super expensive.  If you’re in the main stream you can afford the glass, if not, you can build your own.  Not that difficult relatively speaking, a kit from Texas Instruments perhaps, such as we’ve seen in the PC world, where they now offer small computer kits for building small computers with Android, and Linux.  If you wanted to build your own Google Glass, how fast will there be imitations, I imagine, faster than you can blink an eye, pun intended.

Google will make it popular and sexy, after that, there could be a flood of imitations.  After all, today we can all build knock off Google Glass, a tiny web cam, a lightweight OS, and Bluetooth integrated with your smartphone for two way interaction, streaming, and communications.  The lightweight OS could today be Linux, but the champion for this effort , Red Hat? No, they are a support and solutions group for a blend of Unix.   No, there are a few hurdles that Google must and have taken, in some cases, partnered with Verizon, who had their own blend of HUD at the 2013 CES conference.  Today, we might mock and jeer people who wore glasses with a mini cam on their glasses.  It might be clunky, the idea is to make it alluring to the masses, as well as going through iterations to make it an acceptable medium to the public.  Once Google, the trailblazer in this endeavor burns through the problems, it will pave the way for a massive wave of alternate choices, become a commodity.  It’s not just the issue with the UI, there are legal battles to be fought, privacy for example, is it safe to drive with them on, and so on.  There needs to be mainstream platforms, so people take advantage, and are lured to independent platforms.  Many other companies might follow, such as Amazon or other cloud based companies.  Maybe even independent sites, web sites, mobile apps, and others joining and integrating with APIs.

There is even more to come.  It would be great if we would see more integration of Music Streaming Shops with Music magazines for example.  I use Amazon MP3 on my Samsung S3, and the store is fairly decent, but I would like to click on an artist in the store, and not only see what they have for sale, but am able to see more, such as:

  • when and where are there next concerts, and partner or become a ticket retailer and sell tickets to that concert
  • allow the user to see an array of recent articles from music periodicals, and based on the business model of the periodical allow the user to read the first 10 articles for free, but after that they need to subscribe to that periodicals music news, or have a collective fee, and disperse the margin for the collating of the music news
  • This can happen on the current phones, phablets, or tablets, and you may see a lot more cross pollination of ‘music sales’ as an industry as a whole, which will allow this particular sector to grow.
  • Hey, even partner with Ebay, if a certain artist has put up their guitar for auction, for charity or otherwise, auction tickets, backstage passes, or more.

The list seems endless.

WordPress Shortcode API to Cloud Storage to Sell Any Digital Intellectual Property.

So, I was a browsing, going through bills, and thinking, hey relating to my other article on Google Docs and their new API where you could use them as a data warehouse, it occurred to me.   Why can’t we have a public API for all the Cloud Storage systems like Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 (or Box.com), create a plugin to WordPress, add E-Commerce, and you now have your own place to sell digital music, or any Digital intellectual, property store, or host your own database OLTP or OLAP.

And my bro, Fat Panda, might have been thinking the same thing.  He’s one step behind, but he will catch on.  I will try to update for ‘the cheap seats’ in a bit.

For the cheap seats, even those static files stored up in the cloud, you can use a similar model to Google Docs <-> Google Fusion where you add tabular data to storage, read,over-write, or update using home made table locking mechanism, and essentially use the cloud as a data warehouse, or even a database.  Microsoft seems to have a lead on transitional and analytical storage with Microsoft Azure, relational in nature in the cloud, but it is so much simpler than that with cloud storage, although if not implemented with ‘row’ locking,there is an issue with OLTP (On Line Transaction Processing) row level, high volume, but with OLAP, On Line Analytic Processing, not so much, analyzing the way your business does business, and profit more from your consumer data.  There are easy ways to implement row level locking for row level locking of tabular data stored in cloud storage like AWS or Box.Net,  The methods to implement row level locking for OLTP systems using storage in the cloud are easy to implement, and will remind you of old school type alternatives to supplement the AutoNumber columns in MS Access or Identity columns in SQL Server. At the end of the day to either sell digital intellectual property from a WordPress implementation, or run your entire business with a robust cloud database solution for OLTP or OLAP systems using flat file storage!  Why go through all this when the Amazons AWS and Microsoft Azure have or will yearn to start building these solutions in parallel?  Cost effective solutions, and the entire database arena monopolized by Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, and MySQL, just got extended to a whole lot of database vendors.  It may take a while, but we already know the big Gorilla in the room Google is the first to strike in this game, as a non-traditional database vendor, cloud storage provider with their updated Google Docs API, and optionally usage of their Fusion application.
